A graduate of Venice High School, he went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in 2002. Dr. Bretz’s passion for natural healing began early. As an Eagle Scout, he was inspired by one of his troop leaders who was a chiropractor — someone who embodied health, leadership, and service. That experience opened his eyes to a profession focused not on managing sickness, but on helping people live pain-free and function at their best. After graduation, Dr. Bretz practiced in St. Petersburg at Florida Chiropractor from 2002–2008. There, he met his wife, Sophann, a St. Pete native and Dixie Hollins graduate with a degree in fashion design. In 2008, they decided to return to Sarasota County to raise their family and serve the community he’s always considered home. Today, Dr. Bretz provides hands-on, evidence-based care with a focus on restoring function and addressing the root cause of pain — not just the symptoms. Whether a problem stems from posture, movement patterns, or injury, he takes the time to understand each patient’s lifestyle and goals to create a personalized plan for long-term results. He and his wife are proud parents of four children — two attending Sarasota High School and SSAS, and two at Southside Elementary — all born at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The Bretz family are longtime members of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church and remain deeply rooted in the Sarasota community. While struggling with health and weight issues growing up, he experienced firsthand a system that was more focused on prescribing medications to mask problems than on discovering and resolving their underlying causes. This formative experience ignited a lifelong passion for understanding the intricate workings of the human body and finding a better way to facilitate healing. This drive led him to excel academically, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Life University. But his education didn't stop there. Dr. Strong pursued hundreds of hours of postdoctoral training in functional neurology and became a certified functional medicine practitioner, dedicating himself to the disciplines that seek to understand the body as a whole, interconnected system. He saw how patients were often passed from specialist to specialist, with no one looking at the complete picture. He founded Sarasota Spine and Wellness with a clear vision: to create a haven in Sarasota, FL, where patients could finally get the comprehensive attention and real answers they deserve. This practice is the culmination of his journey—a place built on the belief that everyone is unique and that their care should be too.

Dr. Anthony Wasem Co-Founder & Chiropractor Dr. Anthony is a native of Sandusky, Ohio. All throughout his life, Dr. Anthony has been an athlete. Starting from a young age, he played baseball, football, basketball, golf, and lacrosse. So, he knows what it is like to be in pain and not functioning like he was supposed to, through countless injuries! One afternoon, Dr. Anthony was out playing 9 holes, in a school competition on a local golf course in Ohio. While on the last hole, he swung his golf club so hard, and heard a loud "POP". This "POP" noise left him in excruciating pain for over a week. Thank God for a great friend who brought Dr. Anthony with him to the chiropractor a week later. At the age of 15, Dr. Anthony had no idea what benefits chiropractic would bring or how much of an impact it would have on his life! Within a short month’s time frame, Dr. Anthony was back on the golf course without pain. It was about 6 months after the initial visit that he started noticing he didn’t have his allergies flare up near as bad, when he forgot his allergy medication. He could go weeks without taking the medication, under specific chiropractic care, and not worry about the allergies affecting his life. Fast-forward 7 years, Dr. Anthony was nearing graduation from his undergraduate program with a bachelors degree in Exercise Science. He knew he wanted to help people on a daily basis, with a lot of patient interaction, and work with the body. Dr. Anthony applied to many graduate schools, but chose to travel down to Marietta, Georgia to pursue a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Life University. This is where Dr. Anthony really learned to appreciate the body as a whole and all the healing properties it has. What started out as a search to be pain-free, turned into a career of drug-free, optimal health and healing. While in school, he worked towards obtaining several certifications, in order to serve his community the best he could. He is very excited to help take the health of Sarasota to the next level!
