It was said by BJ Palmer that “Medicine is the study of disease and what causes a man to die. Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes a man to live.” Chiropractic recognizes that the human body has the innate ability to heal itself. In order for the body to recognize challenges and to properly self heal, the brain and nervous system must be able to properly perceive what is going on in the body. When areas of the spine become misaligned and stuck, the brain is unable to properly sense what is going on and therefore can not send the proper messages back out to the body. This breakdown in communication interferes with the bodies natural self healing capabilities and is perceived as stress that activates our sympathetic (fight or flight) response of our nervous system. Constant activation of this system puts our bodies in a state of protection and survival instead of the normal default of growth, development, and healing. Chiropractors identify the areas of the spine that are misaligned and stuck that are causing interference in the bodies ability to self heal and function properly . Once these areas are identified, they can be gently corrected through specific chiropractic adjustments. Once these areas of the spine are corrected the body is no longer in a state of survival and protection and it is able to put its resources into normal growth, healing and development. Dr. Ryan Caringola has been serving families in Encinitas and the surrounding areas since 2008. As a life long martial artist, Dr. Ryan was exposed from an early age to Chinese medicine principles, acupuncture points, herbs, and vitamins to support the body. He originally planned on going to medical school and then incorporating alternative medicine principles. While studying for his mcat, he realized that the path he was on was going to be a very long path before he would be able to study what he was most passionate about. Alternative medicine. He then began exploring all the different options to pursue this path, from naturopathic programs, acupuncture, and chiropractic. He then came across Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCUHS) in Los Angeles, which offered a dual program of study in both acupuncture and chiropractic. In his second trimester at SCUHS, Dr Ryan attended his first Gonstead seminar. He was immediately blown away and for the first time understood what chiropractic was really all about. As he progressed through school he decided to put 100 percent of his focus on chiropractic so that he could learn and develop his skills as a Gonstead chiropractor, which requires many additional hours of study and training. He traveled all over the United states learning from many of the very best Gonstead chiropractors.

I graduated from Life Chiropractic College West in 2012 as the class salutatorian, where I earned my doctorate degree and became a licensed chiropractor. Prior to that, I lived in San Diego (I'm a native, yes, like a unicorn) where I did my undergraduate requirements. As a kid, I always knew I would be a doctor because I was very interested in humans and what makes us actually healthy. When I found chiropractic as a teenager that's all it took and the next thing I knew I was moving to Oakland, CA for my doctorate program. Upper cervical care stood out to me and became the main focus of my coursework, internship, and externship (completed in El Cerrito, CA). After graduation, I moved back to San Diego and the rest is history. Fun stuff? My mom is Irish/American and my dad is Persian, which is where the long name comes from. I love food and eating, especially sipping on a fine silver tequila. I adore coffee, working out (CrossFit, Olympic lifting), visiting museums/art galleries, traveling, fashion, and reading.

Dr. Elliott is a native San Diegan who graduated from Torrey Pines High School in the 1980s. Dr. Elliott graduated Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) with a BS degree in Biology and a Doctor of Chiropractic (cum laude and dean’s list). After receiving his license in 1991, Dr. Elliott opened Performance Chiropractic Center (aka Advanced Spine and Joint Care) in Vista, CA in 1992 and then Spine Decompression Center – the Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression side of the clinic in 2006. Dr. Elliott has attended postgraduate education that produced certificates of achievement in X-ray diagnosis and interpretation; Receptor-Tonus Method (NIMMO deep tissue/myofascial release technique); achieved the status of Qualified Medical Evaluator and an Industrial Disability Evaluator for the state of California (2001-2007), is one of the only Kennedy trained and certified Spinal Decompression Therapy Practitioners in San Diego county; and qualified as a Level 1 Rehabilitation facility in 1997 by the Chiropractic Rehabilitation Association and the American College of Rehabilitation Science. Outside of the practice Dr. Elliott enjoys golfing, surfing, and fishing with his son. He also enjoys wake boarding where he was seen on the front page of the local section of the North County Times on his birthday. Occasionally you will see a picture of him in the Western Outdoor News with a story of his latest catch. He is considered to be a true waterman.
