Imagine driving your car, and the dashboard oil light comes on. Would you cover the light and ignore it, or would you fix the problem? Of course you wouldn’t just cover it up, you know better! But isn’t that what we do with our bodies when we take most drugs? Let me tell you my story. Back when I was 20, I was training at a local gym. While finishing one last repetition of a back exercise, I felt a sudden twinge in my back. At first I didn’t think anything of it, I just kept working out. The next day was a different story. I remember coming out of the shower, suddenly lower back and leg pain hit me. It was excruciating. I couldn’t breathe. I honestly don’t think that I had ever been so afraid in my life. A friend, seeing the shape I was in, recommended that I see his chiropractor. The next day while showing me x-rays of my spine, the chiropractor showed me that my spine had shifted out of alignment, causing pressure on the nerves in my lower back and leg. He explained God created our nervous system to control all function in our bodies and when these nerves are pinched or interfered with, our bodies start to malfunction. It made more sense to me to correct the mis-alignment in my spine so my body could heal naturally, the way God designed it to; than to mask the symptoms by taking drugs or ignoring it. Soon, I could walk again without pain. It changed my life. I pursued a career in chiropractic and now practice here in Sarasota, Fl., teaching as many people as I can about health, natural healing, the deceptions of the pharmaceutical industry and the truth of the way our bodies were created. The story of Sarasota Spine and Wellness is fundamentally the story of its founder, Dr. Todd Strong. His path wasn't just a career choice; it was a personal quest born from his own frustrations with conventional healthcare. While struggling with health and weight issues growing up, he experienced firsthand a system that was more focused on prescribing medications to mask problems than on discovering and resolving their underlying causes. This formative experience ignited a lifelong passion for understanding the intricate workings of the human body and finding a better way to facilitate healing. This drive led him to excel academically, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Life University. But his education didn't stop there. Dr. Strong pursued hundreds of hours of postdoctoral training in functional neurology and became a certified functional medicine practitioner, dedicating himself to the disciplines that seek to understand the body as a whole, interconnected system. He saw how patients were often passed from specialist to specialist, with no one looking at the complete picture. He founded Sarasota Spine and Wellness with a clear vision: to create a haven in Sarasota, FL, where patients could finally get the comprehensive attention and real answers they deserve. This practice is the culmination of his journey—a place built on the belief that everyone is unique and that their care should be too.

Dr. Mercer grew up in Florida, graduating from Palmetto High School in 2015, the University of South Florida in 2019 and Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida in 2023. He is dedicated to providing high-quality chiropractic care by addressing the root causes of pain and designing specifically tailored care plans to improve his patients’ overall quality of life. When he’s not in the office, Dr. Mercer loves to spend time with his wife and daughter. He also enjoys going to church, lifting weights, and rooting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Drs. Rachel & Connor met while both attending Life University’s Doctor of Chiropractic program in Marietta, Georgia. Dr. Connor was Vice President of the Sports Chiropractic Club at school when Dr. Rachel began her studies. They became friends and later began dating, confident that they would one day share their dream of opening a chiropractic clinic together. Both having been raised in the North, yet huge lovers of the sun and the beach, they decided to settle down south in Sarasota, Florida to create their life together. Their mission is to educate, enlighten, and empower those who have been seeking health answers for far too long without satisfying results. As practitioners who understand the immense capabilities of the human body when providing the necessary means of healing, both are confident in being able to identify the underlying causes of their patients’ conditions and lead them on a path toward vitality and longevity.
